Okay guys, I need some advice. I am having some mother-in-law issues. My MIL has always been very supportive, but also at times invasive in our lives. I love her dearly, and she takes care of my 4 year old while I'm at work. My husband and I arranged for him to drop her off each day while I pick her up at night. The problem is that I occasionally pick up my brother in law (who lives at MIL's) after work and bring him home. The problem? Brother in law gets out of work between a half hour to an hour after I do, and I've asked if Mom would meet us at the half-way point between her house and mine with my daughter. Every time I ask, however, she makes me feel like I'm being unreasonable. It's 30 miles one way to her house, and 20 mile in the opposite direction to mine. I'm asking her to meet me 10 miles from her house to "trade off." Am I being unreasonable to ask her to meet me on days I'm picking up her son, or should I just bring him up to her house the same as every other night? The complication is that we live in Vermont, which means that the later it is in the day, the colder it gets. If we've had a storm, things start to ice up after dark. If my brother in law gets out later, by the time I'm at her house and packing up my daughter, it's already after dark and I still need to drive home. HELP!! ANY advice is appreciated!

Good goddess, I really HAVEN't updated in months! Sorry to those of you that read this on occasion. My husband's father just passed away last week after a long battle with lung and liver cancer. He's been in and out of the hospital since fall, and just passed after nearly 40 days in the hospital. It's been hard on my hubby. He's been estranged from his dad for a few years, and they didn't speak until his dad called to tell him what was going on. Granted, Hubby spent YEARS making the effort to stay connected without luck....anyway....I've kept up with reading all my friend journals and I wish all of my LJ friends a happy, healthy, blessed new year!

yee gods, it's been TOO long since I've updated! I've still been reading friends entries faithfully, just nothing earth-shattering to report here. Hubby & I are trying to sell our house - anyone interested in a 4BR 2000 sq.ft.+ house for $150,000? Nice little Vermont town....we just want to live further in the sticks!

    Snow Sucks!
Okay, I know I live in Vermont, and have for 30 years now. I STILL hate frickin' SNOW! AHHHH!!!!! Yes, it's pretty and fun to play in, but it is a bitch to drive in for work. I commute about 75 miles roundtrip daily. That really sucks in a snowstorm. Hey, the 360 degree spins on the ice do amuse the heck out of my 3 year old, though! The last one was after a mix of ice, heavy snow and freezing rain. She laughed and asked "Mama, do it AGAIN!"

I'm trying to make a decision. The job I currently have is working as an adult basic educator. I get to set my own schedule (for the most part) and get 6 weeks vacation per year. The pay sucks, but I have a smaller number of students and I really get to build relationships with them. The question is: do I stay where I am making less money and spending less time with my daughter overall, or do I go back to teaching high school? I feel good about the work I'm doing now, but is it worth it?

he, he - here be dragons!
You scored as The Dragon. Ancient, chaotic, and a bit mysterious is the Dragon figure. Awakened from your happy slumber upon a pile of gold, you go about the country slaying its occupants. Beowulf manages to kill you, but not before you ensure his death. Congrats.

Well, it's been a while since I updated. Things are starting to get crazy at work, and it's only the beginning. From now until mid-June we'll be having people in to take their GED or trying to finish their diplomas before we have our graduation ceremony. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. I have to admit I find it amusing to see the sheer number of people who've blown off classes for the past five months or more come in and expect to be able to catch up on everything in a matter of days. I've had to bite my tongue on several occasions just to keep from making a snide (Snape?) comment or just outright laughing! yeah, I need that vacation soon!

Vacation time may be coming soon!!! I think my vacation request is beig approved next week - so yeah for me! I need some time away - my students already think I'm a little squirrely as it is. Pre-graduation rush has started, and students that dropped out earlier in the fall are coming out of the woodwork now to reenroll in classes. Now if only the snow would go away...... By the way, if anyone's looking for a good Rickman fix, watch Sense & Sensibility ~ yummy Alan goodness! "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard. Be evil."

    Back from beyond....
Sorry I haven't been around. Real life intervened yet again. I'm trying to negotiate for a week off in March with my boss. Since I teach year-round, we each get 6 weeks off per year. It's pretty generous, but the pay is pretty lousy and the atmosphere can suck. We're not part of the public schooling system, so we don't have their budget, yet we're expected to successfully teach all the students that dropped out of the public system without problems? Yeah, right. Give me their materials and staffing budget and we might stand a better chance. Sorry. Needed to rant. I've just been feeling overworked and vastly underappreciated lately. Ever feel like you've become invisable to the world, family included? Welcome to my pity-party....sour grapes, anyone?

Katy's grandmother bought her a kid's country music CD and was playing it at their house. My husband heard it and said he was going to shut it off before his ears started bleeding ~ and Katy just heard some country on a commerical and said, "Mommy, shut it off before my ears start bleeding!" I think my 3 yr old is the only preschooler I know of that likes U2, The Beatles and The Doors.

I think my fondness for Snape is rubbing off on her too. We were watching POA yesterday (HER choice) and she said "He's pretty, Mommy!" I thought she was referring to one of the other characters, but she went up and pointed to Snape. She said that he had a coat like Daddy's trenchcoat. Good taste already!

    Hi ho, Hi ho....
Dreading going into the office in the morning. I don't know why exactly, aside from my boss acting like a massive rectal tumor. I should be used to that by now. I guess that I'm just overdue for a vacation. Can I leave hubby at home too? Wishful thinking, I guess. Time for the raging bitch hormones. I need a girl's night out, but my best bud now lives about 3 hrs away, dammit!

IT's a beautiful day in the neighborhood....
I'm in the middle of a Vermont heat wave, meaning that the temp has climbed up past the freezing mark. The only things keeping me from going stir crazy are chocolate and fanfic. So, by the time the frozen north has thawed, I'll be found in a chocolate induced euphoria in front of my computer reading SS/HG potterfic. WELL, actually, that doesn't sound too bad.....:)
